The launch of Google’s Pixel 10a has been met with mixed reviews, with Tech Advisor reporting that there are only three minor upgrade reasons that may not be enough to entice existing users to make the switch. Despite this, let’s delve into the key improvements and features of the Pixel 10a.

One of the main upgrades on the Pixel 10a is the faster charging capability. The device now supports 30W wired charging, an improvement from the previous 23W speed. Additionally, wireless charging has also been enhanced to 10W, up from 7.5W. While there were rumors of 45W charging, Google has stuck with 30W for the Pixel 10a. The device also boasts a longer battery life of up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver mode.

In terms of the display, the Pixel 10a features a marginally better screen compared to its predecessor. The screen is 11% brighter, reaching up to 3000 nits, and the bezel around the screen has been slightly reduced. While these improvements may not be groundbreaking, they contribute to a slightly better viewing experience.

Google has also focused on making the Pixel 10a more durable and eco-friendly. The device is equipped with Gorilla Glass 7i for added protection, making it the most durable A-series phone from Google. It retains its IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, although Google clarifies that it is not drop or tumble-proof. The phone also incorporates sustainable materials, with a 100% recycled aluminum frame, 81% recycled plastic back cover, and the use of recycled cobalt, copper, gold, and tungsten for the first time.

Despite these upgrades, the question remains whether the Pixel 10a offers enough to justify an upgrade for current users. While those coming from older models may appreciate the new features and design, the Pixel 9a still stands as a competitive option with a similar feature set. In a year where smartphone releases may fall short of expectations, the Pixel 10a faces the challenge of standing out in a crowded market.

Overall, the Pixel 10a offers incremental improvements in charging speed, display quality, durability, and sustainability. While these upgrades may not be groundbreaking, they contribute to a more polished user experience. Whether the Pixel 10a will be a compelling choice for consumers will ultimately depend on individual preferences and priorities in a smartphone.
