Remembering Eric Dane: A Talented Actor Gone Too Soon
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Eric Dane, a beloved actor known for his iconic roles in television and film. Dane, best known for portraying Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on the hit ABC series Grey’s Anatomy and as Cal Jacobs on HBO’s Euphoria, passed away at the age of 53 after battling complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Despite his diagnosis, Dane remained resilient and continued to work in the entertainment industry. In an interview with People in April 2025, he expressed gratitude for his family’s support and his ability to keep working. He was set to return to the set of Euphoria before his untimely passing.
Originally from San Francisco, Dane made his mark in Hollywood after moving to Los Angeles in 1993. He appeared in various TV shows such as Saved by the Bell, Roseanne, and Married…With Children before landing recurring roles in Gideon’s Crossing and Charmed. Dane’s talent also shone on the big screen with roles in films like X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley & Me, and Valentine’s Day.
