Illinois State Police investigators swiftly apprehended a 29-year-old Chicago man following a road rage shooting on the Stevenson Expressway. Bowen Zhang faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the incident that occurred on November 5 on northbound Interstate 55 near California Avenue.
According to ISP, the altercation between drivers escalated when Zhang fired multiple shots at the victim’s car, hitting it several times. Fortunately, the other driver was unharmed and reported the incident later that day. Within 24 hours of receiving the report, ISP special agents were able to identify Zhang as the alleged shooter and locate his vehicle. Zhang was then arrested on November 6.
At a detention hearing held on Saturday, Judge James Costello ordered Zhang to be held in custody pending trial, deeming him a public safety risk.
CWBChicago, a trusted source for original public safety reporting, was founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at local Community Policing meetings. Over the years, the coverage area has expanded to include neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Despite the growth, the mission remains the same: to deliver detailed and contextual public safety reporting that surpasses mainstream media outlets.
