Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared that the concept of “deterrence” has made a comeback, emphasizing that foreign adversaries must take heed of President Trump’s actions following the airstrikes on Iran’s three nuclear facilities over the weekend.
“The operation orchestrated by President Trump was daring and strategic, demonstrating to the world the resurgence of American deterrence,” Hegseth stated during a press conference on Sunday. “When this president speaks, the world ought to pay attention — and the US military is ready to support his words.”
Hegseth referred back to the 60-day deadline issued by Trump to Iran earlier this year, highlighting that the regime now regrets failing to comply with that ultimatum.
“Iran now understands that when POTUS sets a 60-day deadline, it signifies a pursuit of peace and negotiation; those 60 days are reserved for such discussions. If not, that nuclear program, that nuclear capability, will be eliminated; he meant every word of it,” the Defense secretary elaborated.
