Meta Hosts Inaugural LlamaCon AI Developer Event
Meta is set to host its first-ever AI developer event, LlamaCon, on Tuesday. The event will focus on Meta’s Llama family of open AI models, with exciting updates expected for developers. The agenda includes keynotes from Meta executives and fireside chats with Big Tech CEOs and Meta’s chief, Mark Zuckerberg.
Located at Meta’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, a select group of developers and journalists will attend in person. For those unable to attend, the keynotes and fireside chats will be livestreamed on the Meta for Developers Facebook Page and Meta Developers YouTube channel.
The event kicks off at 10:15 a.m. Pacific time with a keynote featuring Meta’s Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox, Vice President of AI, Manohar Paluri, and Generative AI Research Scientist, Angela Fan.
At 10:45 a.m., Zuckerberg will engage in a fireside chat with Databricks Co-founder and CEO Ali Ghodsi to discuss open source AI and AI-powered applications. The connection between Meta and Databricks stems from Meta’s recent backing of the data-focused AI startup as a strategic advisor.
Later in the day, at 4 p.m., Zuckerberg will participate in another fireside chat, this time with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The two CEOs will delve into the latest AI trends and provide insights on how developers can stay competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
Meta faces high stakes at LlamaCon following the launch of Llama 4, a new generation of AI models that received a lukewarm response from developers. The models were criticized for not being cutting-edge compared to leading AI models from DeepSeek, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
Shortly after the launch, Meta was embroiled in controversy over allegations of cheating on the LM Arena crowdsourced AI benchmark. The company used a specialized version of its Maverick model to achieve a high score on LM Arena, sparking debate within the AI community.
With LlamaCon, Meta aims to rebuild trust and credibility among developers. The event will be a crucial opportunity for the company to showcase its commitment to innovation and transparency in the AI space.
