Honor 400 review: Striking the right balance
SHARE

The Honor 400 is the latest mid-range phone from Honor, offering a range of impressive features at an affordable price point. With a premium look and feel, great cameras with Harcourt portrait effects, excellent battery life, nifty AI features, and long software support, this device is a solid choice for those looking for a reliable smartphone.

However, it’s important to note that the Honor 400 does have a few drawbacks. It has slower charging than its predecessor and may not be the best option for gaming enthusiasts. Despite these minor issues, the overall performance of the phone is great for everyday use.

One of the standout features of the Honor 400 is its design and build quality. With an aluminum frame and glass back, the phone feels premium in hand. It also boasts an IP65 rating, making it resistant to dust and water ingress. The flat edges and sleek design give it a modern look that rivals flagship devices.

The 6.55-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate is vibrant and sharp, with a peak brightness of 5000 nits. The stereo speakers provide good sound quality, although they could be louder. Overall, the screen and speakers on the Honor 400 offer a solid multimedia experience.

In terms of performance, the Honor 400 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, coupled with 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. While the phone handles everyday tasks with ease, it may struggle with demanding games on high graphics settings. For most users, the performance is more than adequate.

The camera setup on the Honor 400 is impressive, with a 200Mp main sensor, a 12Mp ultrawide lens, and a 50Mp selfie camera. The main sensor delivers detailed shots, and the AI Super Zoom feature provides enhanced zoom capabilities. The ultrawide lens and selfie camera perform well in most lighting conditions, although low-light performance may be lacking.

Battery life on the Honor 400 is excellent, thanks to the 5300mAh battery. The phone supports 66W wired charging, which can quickly top up the battery. However, there is no wireless charging option available.

On the software side, the Honor 400 runs Magic OS 9 based on Android 15. The operating system offers a unique user experience with plenty of AI features and tools. The phone also comes with Google’s Image to Video feature, allowing users to create short videos from images.

Overall, the Honor 400 is a compelling mid-range phone with a range of great features at an affordable price. It may not be the best option for gamers, but for everyday use, it offers solid performance, a premium design, impressive cameras, and excellent battery life. If you’re in the market for a mid-range smartphone with a good balance of features and performance, the Honor 400 is definitely worth considering.
