The Houston Rockets are gearing up for a challenging matchup against the Sacramento Kings as they continue their road trip. After dropping the first two games of the six-game stretch, the Rockets managed to secure a 115-101 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. Now, they are looking to extend their winning streak against the struggling Kings.

This game marks the second meeting between the two teams this season, with the Rockets coming out on top in their previous encounter with a 125-119 win. Both teams will be playing the second game of a back-to-back, adding an extra layer of challenge to the matchup.

The Rockets have been dominant at home, winning eight out of their ten games in the first half of the season. However, their performance on the road has been a concern, as they hold a 9-6 record away from Houston. Despite this, several players have stepped up recently to support Kevin Durant offensively, with guard Reed Shepherd delivering an impressive 28-point performance off the bench in their recent win over the Nuggets.

Currently, the Rockets hold a slim 0.5-game lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves in sixth place and are 1.5 games behind the fourth-place LA Lakers in the Western Conference standings.

On the other hand, the Sacramento Kings are in a rut, enduring a five-game losing streak that has dropped them to the bottom of the conference with a 6-22 record. New Orleans Pelicans, just 0.5 games ahead of them in 14th place, have shown signs of improvement with a 4-6 record in their last 10 games compared to the Kings’ 1-9 stretch.

In terms of starting lineups and depth charts for the game on Dec. 21, the Rockets may be without Tari Eason, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Fred VanVleet due to various injuries. Coach Ime Udoka is likely to stick with the lineup featuring Kevin Durant, Jabari Smith Jr., Alperen Sengun, Josh Okogie, and Amen Thompson.

Meanwhile, the Kings will be missing key players like Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine due to injuries, while Malik Monk’s status remains uncertain. Precious Achiuwa, Keegan Murray, Maxime Raynaud, Russell Westbrook, and DeMar DeRozan are expected to start for Sacramento.

As the Rockets look to continue their winning ways and the Kings aim to break their losing streak, all eyes will be on the court for what promises to be an exciting and competitive matchup between these two Western Conference teams.
