How Anthropologie Conquered Millennial Cringe

Anthropologie has undergone a transformation in recent years, thanks to the strategic vision of its CEO, Tricia Smith. The retailer set out to bring more innovation and excitement to its offerings, moving away from the traditional seasonal calendar. In addition, a digital marketing team was established to capitalize on viral trends and engage with customers in new ways. Smith also implemented a plan to reduce the brand’s reliance on promotions and discounts, focusing instead on full-price sales.

The results speak for themselves – Anthropologie’s revenue has surged to $2.4 billion in fiscal 2025, up from $1.6 billion in 2020, making it Urbn’s flagship brand. With a diverse range of products spanning women’s apparel, bridal wear, home decor, and outdoor gear, Anthropologie has become a fashion-lifestyle powerhouse. Smith credits the brand’s success to Urbn’s vertically integrated supply chain and the expertise of its divisional leaders.

Looking ahead, Anthropologie is poised for even greater growth. The brand’s home category is on track to double sales to $1 billion in the coming years, a goal that was shared with investors in 2023. Smith is particularly proud of the brand’s ability to attract new customers while retaining existing ones, a feat that she believes is challenging in today’s market.

One of Anthropologie’s most recent moves was the spin-off of its popular own label, Maeve, into a standalone brand. The first Maeve store opened in Charleston in October, with plans for a second location in Atlanta in January. While sales projections for Maeve remain undisclosed, Smith sees immense potential for the brand’s expansion. The decision to spin off Maeve was driven by the brand’s strong margins, identified by Anthropologie’s financial team.

In conclusion, Anthropologie’s evolution under Tricia Smith’s leadership has been nothing short of remarkable. The brand’s focus on innovation, digital marketing, and full-price sales has paid off handsomely, positioning Anthropologie for continued success in the years to come. With a strong foundation and a clear vision for the future, Anthropologie is poised to dominate the fashion-lifestyle market like never before.
