Humana reported $195 million in profits for the third quarter, with medical cost trends aligning with the company’s forecasts. The health insurer faced higher costs, particularly in its Medicare Advantage plans, prompting the company to exit certain unprofitable plans and counties.

The benefit expense ratio for Humana was 91.1%, in line with guidance, compared to 89.9% in the previous year. Despite a decrease in net income to $195 million, revenue rose to $32.6 billion from $29.4 billion in the year-ago period.

Humana reaffirmed its full-year 2025 earnings outlook and insurance segment benefit ratio guidance, supported by stable cost trends and strong execution. The company also reported better-than-expected Medicare Advantage enrollment and growth in its CenterWell healthcare services business.

Humana President and CEO, Jim Rechtin, expressed confidence in the company’s strategy and outlook, emphasizing the focus on consumer-centric practices and creating value for members, patients, and investors.
