Chicago police have issued a second alert regarding a disturbing trend of anti-Semitic vandalism in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Over the past month, at least seven incidents have been reported, prompting the department to classify the acts as hate crimes.

According to the latest community alert released on Wednesday afternoon, unknown individuals have been placing stickers or graffiti with anti-Semitic phrases on public and private property in the area. The targeted locations include a mailbox, stop signs, Amazon lockers, and an emergency bell.

The earliest incident was reported on June 23 in the 5100 block of South University Avenue. Since then, similar acts of vandalism have been discovered at various locations in the neighborhood:

– June 23, 2:41 p.m. – 5100 block of South University Avenue
– June 24, between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. – 1300 block of East 53rd Street
– June 24, 10:07 p.m. – 1300 block of East 54th Street
– June 29, 8:57 p.m. – 1200 block of East 53rd Street
– June 30, 11:25 a.m. – 1500 block of East 55th Street
– July 22, 9:52 a.m. – 1600 block of East 55th Street
– July 22, 11:00 a.m. – 5000 block of South Greenwood Avenue

The Chicago Police Department had initially issued a crime alert on July 21, but the recent report indicates that the pattern of anti-Semitic vandalism is persisting and expanding. Residents are urged to keep their properties well-lit and to preserve any relevant security footage. Area One detectives are leading the investigation and can be contacted at 312-747-8380.
