Lionel Messi, the superstar forward for Inter Miami, recently opened up about his reluctance to speak in English, despite being proficient in the language. The Argentine, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, has been residing in the US since 2023.

Messi, 38, is a legendary figure in the world of football, having won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award eight times during his illustrious career at Barcelona. After leaving the Spanish giants, he made the move to Inter Miami on a free transfer and has been plying his trade there ever since.

While Messi is capable of communicating in English, he admitted that he feels uncomfortable speaking the language and prefers to converse in his native Spanish. “I feel strange when speaking,” Messi revealed in an interview with MC. “I don’t like it, and I prefer to do everything in Spanish, but as for English, I think I can speak and others understand me.”

The Argentina captain spent his formative years in his home country before making the move to Barcelona at the age of 13. After a successful 17-year stint with the Catalan club, Messi spent two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain before eventually joining Inter Miami in 2023.

Despite being under contract with Inter Miami until the end of the 2028 season, Messi has recently been linked with a shock move to Liverpool. Rumors suggest that the World Cup winner could join the Reds on a short-term loan deal ahead of the upcoming MLS season. This move would see Messi reunite with former Barcelona teammate, Luis Suarez, at Anfield.

Following an impressive season with Inter Miami, where he scored 43 goals and provided 25 assists, Messi is poised to lead Argentina in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The Argentine will be looking to defend his country’s title and add another prestigious trophy to his already glittering collection.

As the football world eagerly anticipates Messi’s next move, one thing is for certain – wherever he goes, he will continue to captivate fans with his unparalleled talent and skill on the pitch.
