Exploring the Artisanal Universe of Iamisigo: A Recap of the Spring 2026 Collection
Fresh from a successful debut at Copenhagen Fashion Week, Iamisigo made its way back to Lagos, Nigeria with a bang. Founder and creative director Bubu Ogisi transformed a section of luxury retailer Temple Muse into a whimsical tea party for the unveiling of the brand’s Spring 2026 collection. This event served as a reminder that Iamisigo is not just a fashion brand but a gateway to a universe of artisanal, handcrafted treasures waiting to be discovered.
The presentation space at Temple Muse was transformed into a surreal setting, with an acrylic dining table and chairs adorned with Iamisigo products, from a striking black and white checkered tablecloth to hand-blown glassware. The walls were covered in handwritten text and doodles, with hidden snippets from the “dual mandate book” depicting the historical “Scramble for Africa.” Ogisi emphasized the importance of understanding our history and heritage in order to counteract the narratives of the past.
Extensive research was a cornerstone of the collection’s development, with Ogisi traveling across Africa to countries like Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa to collaborate with local artisans and craftsmen. The result was a range of contemporary garments infused with traditional craftsmanship, including standout pieces like a silver handcrafted metallic dress and a beaded blue vest paired with fringed trousers. The signature hand-blown glass bags, crafted from recycled glass in Kenya, showcased the seamless fusion of fashion and art in Iamisigo’s creations.
The show itself was a theatrical spectacle, with models transforming into living sculptures as they maneuvered around the dining table. Ogisi described the event as an “informational little play,” designed to offer a unique experience of the collection to the Lagos audience. While the brand had made waves in Copenhagen, Ogisi emphasized the importance of returning home to share the collection with their loyal supporters.
