Illegal immigration at the southern border saw a significant decrease in January, thanks to President Donald J. Trump’s tough stance on border security. This decline, dubbed the “Trump Effect,” is evident in the data released by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which shows a 36% drop in apprehensions compared to the previous month.

In January, only 61,465 illegal aliens were apprehended at the southern border, with 29,116 caught along the border and 32,349 at ports of entry. This marks the lowest number of apprehensions since May 2020. The impact of President Trump’s policies was immediate, with a dramatic 85% decrease in border patrol apprehensions in the days following his return to office.

Under the previous administration, the average number of illegal aliens encountered in January was a staggering 141,710. These numbers were a result of lenient policies that allowed illegal aliens to remain in the country indefinitely. However, President Trump’s approach has led to record lows in illegal border crossings, with swift arrests and deportations becoming the norm.

As a result of these measures, illegal immigration is now being tackled effectively, sending a clear message that crossing the border unlawfully will not be tolerated. The new approach prioritizes national security and upholds the rule of law, ensuring that those who attempt to enter the country illegally are promptly dealt with and sent back to their home countries.
