On June 5, Mayim Bialik shared her harrowing experience with a GLP-1 medication in an article for The Free Press.
The Big Bang Theory actress revealed that three doctors recommended she try a GLP-1 to address the systemic inflammation associated with autoimmune disorders.
“I was worn out from being unwell, from the endless specialists, diets, protocols, and promises. Perhaps this was the miracle solution,” she explained.
However, after a single shot of the lowest dose of a synthetic GLP-1, she reportedly suffered from “explosive, uncontrollable diarrhea.”
Bialik recounted her ordeal: “Sulfur burps so intense, I was hesitant to open my mouth in public. Sneezing fits whenever I tried to eat or drink—known as snatiation. Cramping. Bloating. Whole-body aches, similar to the flu. Unable to keep even small sips of water down without rushing to the bathroom due to more severe diarrhea. More than three times, I didn’t make it.”
She also noted experiencing something akin to an allergic reaction. Her symptoms escalated to the point where a nurse had to visit her home to provide IV fluids.
“They said extreme side effects weren’t uncommon. I couldn’t comprehend that—and consulting a gastroenterologist was considered overly cautious. How could a reaction as severe as mine be seen as normal?” she questioned.
