In a recent podcast episode, Bunnie delved into the reasons behind Jelly’s decision to file for divorce. She recounted a heated exchange on Mother’s Day, stating, “We argued, and though the specifics aren’t important, I was so frustrated that I told him, ‘Well, then file the f—— divorce papers.'” Bunnie acknowledged that this was a significant mistake on her part, noting it’s typically something you should avoid saying, even though the Wild Ones singer, whom she described as “the runner,” had made similar statements previously.
Following the argument, the couple ceased communication for a week, which led to Jelly officially starting divorce proceedings. Bunnie explained, “In his anger and our emotional state, he did exactly what I said and filed the papers. Was I caught off guard? Was this a mutual decision? No, it wasn’t mutual. Even though I told him to do it, I was speaking out of anger and frustration.”
Contrary to earlier reports that suggested Jelly and Bunnie’s separation was a “mutual decision and a private family matter,” Bunnie maintains that it was not a mutual choice. Despite the situation, she still referred to Jelly as her “best friend.” She expressed her feelings by saying, “I don’t care how messed up our relationship was, which it wasn’t that messed up. I didn’t care how much we failed to communicate or how things ended. I was in it with him till the end. I felt we owed it to ourselves to try therapy and work things out.”
Reflecting on Jelly’s perspective, Bunnie observed, “He didn’t feel that way, and I respect it. It took me a month and a half to come to terms with that. But I’m so happy. So, so, so happy.”
