Joliet Man Detained After Allegedly Making False Bomb Threat at Westmont Porsche Warehouse

A Joliet man, identified as Devan Sheard, was ordered detained by a DuPage County judge after allegedly posting a YouTube video in which he claimed to have planted explosives inside luxury vehicles at a Westmont Porsche warehouse.

Westmont police responded to the Napleton Porsche warehouse on Burr Oak Drive following the YouTube post created by Sheard, which remained online as of Wednesday morning.

In the video, Sheard is seen filming himself inside the car dealership garage filled with high-end vehicles, making references to planting improvised explosive devices inside the cars. He identifies himself as Andre and goes on a rambling monologue referencing manga and fantasy characters.

Sheard states in the video, “In one of these transports … I have hidden an I-E-D. I mean, a D-E-I. No, no, no. A D-I-E. No, no, no. Journeyed all the way to Westmont to tag my calling card.”

Despite his claims in the video, no bomb-making materials or explosives were found by Westmont police and the DuPage County Sheriff’s bomb squads during searches of the warehouse and Sheard’s residence.

Sheard appeared in First Appearance Court on Tuesday, charged with one count of making a false bomb threat. Prosecutors argued successfully for his detention while the case progresses.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin expressed concern over the impact of Sheard’s actions, stating, “The alleged conduct of Mr. Sheard left employees at the facility, as well as the Westmont community anxious and in fear for their personal safety. Additionally, the law enforcement resources devoted to this investigation were unnecessary and a waste of taxpayers’ money.”
