From award-winning TV shows to record-breaking box office hits, these international breakouts made their mark on the industry.

Maura Delpero, a young Italian director, emerged as Europe’s new indie darling with her film “Vermiglio,” which won the Venice Film Festival’s Silver Lion. The movie, set in an Alpine village post-World War II, received critical acclaim for its attention to detail and captivating storytelling.

Mark Eydelshteyn and Yura Borisov, Russian actors, gained fame for their roles in the Cannes-winning film “Anora.” Their performances garnered them nominations and accolades, propelling them to Hollywood’s spotlight.

Karla SofĂ­a GascĂłn, a Spanish actor, made history at the Cannes Film Festival with her role in “Emilia Perez,” a crime musical that showcased her range and talent. GascĂłn’s performance garnered critical acclaim and awards recognition, positioning her as a frontrunner for an Oscar nomination.

Payal Kapadia, an Indian filmmaker, solidified her place in the industry with “All We Imagine as Light,” a film that earned her a second Cannes award and international acclaim. Kapadia’s storytelling prowess and unique style have set her apart as a leading voice in contemporary cinema.

Elly Conway, the mysterious novelist behind the film adaptation of her debut novel “Argylle,” created a buzz with her enigmatic persona. Despite the intrigue surrounding Conway, it was eventually revealed that writers Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen were the masterminds behind the spy thriller.

Overall, 2024 was a transformative year for these international talents, marking a new chapter in their careers and cementing their status as breakout stars in the entertainment industry.
