The upcoming iPhone 17e is rumored to be introducing a key feature that could bring it in line with the Pixel 10 series. According to a recent report from The Information, Apple is planning to incorporate MagSafe wireless charging into the successor to the iPhone 16e. The iPhone 17e is expected to be released in early 2026, with Qi2 support making a comeback.

This development marks a significant shift in the landscape of wireless charging technology, particularly when considering the historical context of Qi2 support in smartphones. While Android devices have often been criticized for lacking Qi2 wireless charging capabilities, Apple’s iPhone series has been at the forefront with its MagSafe technology since the iPhone 12 was unveiled in 2020.

Interestingly, earlier this year, Apple launched the iPhone 16e without MagSafe support in an effort to keep costs down. This decision diverged from the company’s usual stance on wireless charging. However, the tables turned when Google introduced the Pixel 10 series, becoming the first mainstream Android phones to feature Qi2 wireless charging, known as PixelSnap.

With the imminent release of the Google Pixel 10a, which is expected to include PixelSnap and potentially a lower price point, Apple may face pressure to ensure that its 2026 mid-range iPhone 17e remains competitive in the market. Additionally, the iPhone 17e is rumored to come equipped with Apple’s latest in-house modem, the C1X, which debuted on the iPhone Air.

Speaking of the iPhone Air, the 2025 model has faced criticism for certain compromises, such as a single camera and a relatively high price tag. However, reports suggest that Apple is revisiting the design for the iPhone Air 2, planning to incorporate a second camera and lower the retail price to address these concerns.

Overall, the upcoming iPhone 17e and iPhone Air 2 are poised to bring significant upgrades and improvements to Apple’s smartphone lineup in 2026. With the integration of MagSafe wireless charging, enhanced camera capabilities, and competitive pricing, Apple is aiming to stay ahead of the curve in the ever-evolving smartphone market.
