Representative Jasmine Crockett is known for her candid commentary and unfiltered truth-telling. When she confronted FBI Director Kash Patel, expectations were set high for an exchange ripe with uncomfortable revelations.
During the hearing, Rep. Crockett made her position unmistakably clear:
“Wow. Today has been overwhelming, and I’m not quite sure where to start. Let’s begin with some indisputable facts—first and foremost, Christopher Wray, our FBI Director, was appointed by Donald Trump. Now, I’m not shy to express my disagreements with many of Trump’s choices, particularly the appointments he makes to significant roles like this one. I find it utterly astounding that you are regarded as the least qualified FBI director in the agency’s history, considering you are the only one who lacked prior service with the FBI before taking this position.
“Yet, we are led to believe you are a game changer. I haven’t asked you anything yet! But it’s time to address the reality: we need to discuss why you have been an abysmal failure. Honestly, we should be saying goodbye here. I noticed you got a little defensive, perhaps putting on a performance for your superior, which might explain your behavior during discussions with Senator Booker yesterday.
“Let’s delve into your shortcomings: even prior to your official confirmation, it was noted that you were already compiling lists of career officials to target for illegal firings. These are the very cases you express outrage over, which have their roots in your own handpicked FBI director during the Trump administration.
“When people claim to feel secure under your leadership, I have to question who actually feels safe in this country. Certainly not me, and I doubt I’m alone in this sentiment. As a Black woman, the climate feels far from secure.”
