Team Penske has unveiled a special paint scheme for Joey Logano in honor of Scott McLaughlin’s classic livery ahead of the upcoming doubleheader weekend at Phoenix Raceway from March 6-8.
NASCAR and the NTT IndyCar Series will both be featured during the weekend, marking the first time since IndyCar last raced at Phoenix in 2018. Logano will showcase the throwback paint scheme that McLaughlin and Alexandre PrĂ©mat used to secure victory at Mount Panorama seven years ago. McLaughlin’s memorable 2019 Bathurst 1000 win came after starting from pole position and engaging in a thrilling final-lap battle that ultimately sealed the triumph for their team.
Team Penske shared a sneak peek of the new red and yellow Shell paint scheme for the No. 22 car on social media, stating, “Bringing a classic back. [Joey Logano] will be running the 2019 Bathurst 1000-winning livery for Phoenix this weekend.”
Phoenix Raceway holds a rich history with IndyCar, with the series last visiting the one-mile oval in 2018 when Josef Newgarden clinched victory for Team Penske in the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix.
The Good Ranchers 250 is scheduled to make a return in 2026, following NASCAR’s spring weekend races in the Cup and O’Reilly Series. The “Desert Double” will kick off with the Good Ranchers 250 at 1:00 pm on March 7.
Joey Logano has established himself as one of the most successful drivers at Phoenix Raceway, boasting four wins at the venue (2016, 2020, 2022, 2024). However, it’s the special paint scheme for this weekend’s race that has captured the attention of fans, with many expressing their admiration for the design.
As fans eagerly anticipate Logano’s appearance at Phoenix, they have taken to social media to voice their excitement. Comments such as “This needs to be the primary paint scheme,” “This is so fire let’s go. 963 next pls,” and “Should be his scheme every week” reflect the overwhelming positive reception towards Logano’s new livery.
The NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway is set to commence at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 8. With Tyler Reddick claiming victory in the first three races of the 2026 season, all eyes will be on Logano as he aims to compete against defending champion Christopher Bell at the one-mile oval.
In past races at Phoenix, Logano has faced challenges, including finishing outside the top 10 last spring and encountering penalties that affected his performance. However, with the support of fans and the striking new paint scheme paying tribute to Scott McLaughlin’s success, Logano is poised to make a statement on the track.
Stay tuned for the action-packed weekend at Phoenix Raceway as Logano races with the iconic Bathurst 1000-winning livery, showcasing the perfect blend of history and modernity on the track.
