Chicago Man Accused of Murdering Roommate, Fleeing to Indiana

A Chicago man, Juan Osorio, is facing charges of first-degree murder in the death of his roommate, Christian Restrepo, last summer. Prosecutors revealed that Osorio allegedly stabbed Restrepo repeatedly during a physical fight in their apartment on the 900 block of West 78th Street. Following the incident, Osorio fled to Indiana, where he spontaneously confessed to tribal police officers inside the Four Winds Casino two days later.

According to Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Pekara, Osorio approached two Pokagon Band Tribal Police officers at the casino and admitted to killing his roommate. He provided them with the address of the crime scene and was taken into custody. Chicago patrol officers later found a message written on the apartment wall by Osorio, asking Jesus to bless Restrepo’s soul.

Restrepo was found dead in the apartment, with multiple stab wounds and incisions on his upper body. Osorio allegedly left the scene and was captured on surveillance video leaving the building wearing bloody clothing. He was later seen at a nearby Walmart in South Bend, Indiana, purchasing items.

During a conversation with Chicago detectives in Indiana, Osorio provided conflicting statements about the murder. He claimed that Restrepo had attempted to sexually assault him on the day of the killing, a claim he had made previously at a hospital. However, he also stated that this did not happen. Additionally, Osorio mentioned that the two argued frequently and joked about the murder while in tribal police custody.

Osorio was returned to Chicago to face charges and has been detained. The case continues to unfold as investigators gather more evidence and statements from the suspect.
