Former Vice President Kamala Harris has finally addressed the turmoil following former President Joe Biden’s surprising decision to withdraw from the race for the 2024 election, just a few months before Election Day.
During an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Monday, Harris introduced her upcoming memoir titled “107 Days”, calling Biden’s departure “recklessness” and expressing regret for not advocating more strongly for him to think twice.
“Writing this book has made me realize the level of responsibility I had and should have acted upon,” Harris shared with Maddow. “When I speak of recklessness, I am, to a great extent, acknowledging my own role in this. The stakes were enormous, and I feared that pushing him to reconsider would seem too self-interested,” she elaborated.
This statement marked Harris’s first public indication of uncertainty regarding her response to this significant political shift.
Following Biden’s decision, she found herself with just over 100 days to plan her strategy and prepare to challenge President Donald Trump.
Harris characterized the situation as “unprecedented.”
Harris reminisced about how “individuals from diverse backgrounds united in large numbers, fueled by extraordinary optimism and, I dare say, joy for America’s potential.”
Critics within her party doubted her ability to rally Democrats and attract independent voters with such limited time remaining.
