Kate Cassidy is undergoing the removal of a tattoo she had dedicated to her late partner, Liam Payne, marking a significant personal milestone in her journey of coping with the singer’s death. Close associates told RadarOnline.com that this step is part of her ongoing adjustment to life after Payne, a former member of One Direction, passed away.
Cassidy, 27, shared via Instagram that she has started laser treatments to remove the “444” tattoo from her hand, which she got following Payne’s death in October 2024.

Kate Removes Tattoo
Kate Cassidy began laser treatment to remove her hand tattoo.
The tattoo, thought to be the couple’s “angel number,” symbolizes protection, encouragement, and support. Cassidy posted photos from Skin Club Miami with the caption: “Tattoo removal today.”
She clarified that the decision to remove the tattoo does not mean she is erasing Payne’s memory. Alongside an image of the procedure, she explained: “Decided to get some tattoos removed that were done poorly, will be getting redone eventually.”
Other tributes to Payne remain on her body, including angel wings, the initials “LP” on her wrist, a wilted rose on her thumb, and the number four on her left ring finger.
A source close to Cassidy stated: “This isn’t about letting Liam go or moving on from what they shared. Kate simply wants some of the tattoos redone because she doesn’t feel they reflected what she wanted at the time. The memories remain incredibly important to her.”
“Every decision she has made has been shaped by grief. Removing and eventually replacing one tattoo is part of reclaiming something deeply personal, not forgetting the person it represents. But it is part of her battle with grief.”

Grief Shaped Every Choice

Cassidy got the ‘444’ tattoo after Liam Payne died in 2024.
In recent months, Cassidy has openly discussed her challenges in rebuilding life after Payne’s passing. She recently ended a brief relationship because she found herself comparing her new partner to the singer.
“I got dumped, you guys,” she admitted. “Things were moving super fast. If you know me, you know I have a tendency of moving fast.”
“Let’s just call this guy Joe. Joe was really sweet and a lot of things I wanted in a guy. He’s super low-key, so he doesn’t have any social media, which I actually really liked.”
“I met his family, he took me on trips, things were going really well, really quickly. I f—– up,” she added.
Cassidy later acknowledged that grief played a role in the relationship’s end.

Liam Still On Her Mind

Cassidy ended a brief relationship after comparing her partner to Payne.
Cassidy explained, “Dating after losing somebody you thought you would spend your life with is really tough because I look for Liam in every guy I meet.”
“If they don’t meet all the criteria, I tend to back away or even resent them, which is crazy,” she continued.
“There were times I got angry with this guy because I would think, ‘Liam would do this, so why aren’t you?'” she reflected.
“Or he would do something, and I would think, ‘Liam would never do that,'” she said.
She shared that her partner texted her, suggesting they go their separate ways because it was too much. “I understand,” she noted.
“I feel sad because I don’t like losing people, and at the beginning of a relationship, it’s so fun, and you’re excited about where it might go,” she concluded.

Looking Toward The Future

Cassidy acknowledged that love after loss marked a grief milestone.
In April, Cassidy expressed her readiness to date again, while recognizing that Payne would always be part of her life.
“I am ready to start dating again. It has been a year and a half since Liam passed away,” she said.
“I think that love after loss is a significant chapter in your journey through grief, and while I don’t know how it will feel, I do know that I loved being in love,” she continued.
“I want to have kids one day; I want a family. I know Liam would want that for me, and if the roles were reversed, I would want him to be happy and find love again,” she added.
“I will always love Liam, and that won’t change, no matter who comes into my life,” she emphasized.
“I will think about Liam on my wedding day and every day for the rest of my life, and that goes without saying,” she concluded.
