Chicago Man Charged with Fatally Stabbing Sleeping Passenger on CTA Blue Line Train

Last Saturday morning, a tragic incident unfolded on a CTA Blue Line train in the Loop when 21-year-old Demetrius Thurman recorded himself fatally stabbing a sleeping passenger, 37-year-old Dominique Pollion. The shocking events were captured on Thurman’s phone, from the attack itself to the aftermath as transit security officers discovered the dying man at the Clark-Lake station.

Thurman now faces first-degree murder charges in connection with Pollion’s death. Prosecutors revealed that there was no prior relationship between the two men, and they had not interacted before the violent assault took place.

The chilling sequence of events began as Pollion was asleep on the train, with his head resting against the window. Thurman approached him from behind, recording on his phone as he carried out the brutal attack. Surveillance footage from the CTA and Thurman’s own video evidence captured him stabbing Pollion in the chest and abdomen, causing the victim to wake up screaming and eventually collapse.

After the assault, Thurman moved to a different train car but returned to film the aftermath at Clark-Lake station. His video footage shows Pollion lying in the aisle as security officers responded, with Thurman even capturing his own face on camera and making disturbing remarks before leaving the scene.

Despite being rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Pollion succumbed to the two stab wounds and was pronounced dead. Chicago police used facial recognition technology to identify Thurman from CTA footage, leading to his arrest at Union Station the following day.

A search of Thurman’s cellphone yielded incriminating evidence, including the recordings of the attack and photos of other sleeping passengers on the train. Thurman reportedly confessed to the stabbing and acknowledged his presence in various images taken before, during, and after the incident.

Following these developments, Judge Susana Ortiz ordered Thurman to be detained pending trial as the legal proceedings continue.
