Kiwis to open World Cup against Australia

The upcoming Rugby League World Cup has revealed the thrilling match-ups for the Kiwis as they have been paired with the defending champions Australia.

Group A comprises the Kiwis alongside Fiji and Cook Islands, setting the stage for intense competition. On the other hand, Group B features England, Samoa, and Lebanon, while Tonga, Papua New Guinea, and France make up Group C.

The teams in Group A will face off in three matches against each other, with similar matchups planned for Groups B and C. The top two teams from Group A will advance to the semifinals, along with the top two teams from a combined table of Groups B and C.

The highly anticipated tournament will kick off with a clash between New Zealand and Australia in Sydney on October 15, 2026.

In the women’s tournament, the Kiwi Ferns are placed in Group B alongside Papua New Guinea, France, and Fiji. Meanwhile, Group A consists of Australia, England, Samoa, and Wales.

Exciting matchups await as each team will compete in three matches within their group, with the top two teams progressing to the semifinals.

A double-header event in Christchurch on October 25 will see the Kiwis facing Cook Islands and the Kiwi Ferns taking on France.

The grand finals are scheduled to take place in Brisbane on November 15, marking the culmination of an action-packed tournament.
