A High-Speed Rail Line Aiming to Connect Los Angeles to New York City by 2026

A proposed high-speed rail line, known as “The Transcontinental Chief,” is being pitched to connect Los Angeles to New York City in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The plan, presented to Amtrak, President Trump, and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, envisions transporting passengers between the two major cities in just 72 hours.

The project, spearheaded by Delaware-based Ameristar Rail, aims to utilize existing infrastructure owned by Amtrak and other regional rail lines passing through key cities like Kansas City, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Instead of embarking on a new public project, the proposal suggests leveraging the current rail network to streamline operations and reduce costs.

Funded by private investors rather than taxpayers, the high-speed rail line would accommodate both passengers and vehicles, taking inspiration from Europe’s truck transport trains. Ameristar Rail sees this initiative as an opportunity for Amtrak to collaborate with the private sector, revitalize its long-distance services, and usher in a profitable era of rail travel.

A proposed high-speed rail line could soon connect Los Angeles to New York City in under 72 hours.

Scott Spencer, AmeriStarRail’s chief operating officer, emphasized the potential of “The Transcontinental Chief” to transform rail travel in the United States, especially as the nation approaches its 250th birthday. The project aims to be operational by May 10, 2026, aligning with the FIFA World Cup hosted across North America with the finals at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

With a focus on private funding and operational efficiency, AmeristarRail aims to make the high-speed rail line a reality without additional federal spending or legislative hurdles. The project’s timeline aligns with key national celebrations and events, highlighting its potential to enhance transportation infrastructure and connectivity.

As discussions continue with Amtrak and other stakeholders, the Transcontinental Chief represents a bold step towards modernizing rail transportation in the United States. By leveraging existing resources and private investments, the project aims to offer a faster, more efficient travel option for tourists, commuters, and truckers alike.

Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this ambitious high-speed rail initiative as it aims to reshape cross-country travel and transportation networks in the coming years.
