The Dubai-based production and distribution company Front Row Filmed Entertainment is expanding its ventures into the comedy genre by producing a special television event highlighting popular Lebanese comic John Achkar’s upcoming stand-up show titled “Tryin’” (“Aam Jarrib”) at L’Olympia, the renowned concert venue in Paris.

Achkar’s “Tryin’” performance is set for Oct. 23 and will stand as the inaugural Arabic-language comedy act to take the iconic L’Olympia stage, as noted in Front Row’s announcement. The historic venue has previously welcomed legends like Chris Rock, Gad Elmaleh, and Eddie Izzard.

Describing his show, Achkar adopts a “no-holds-barred, rapid-fire” style that delves into the humor and heartbreak of contemporary Arab existence, according to the statement. The performance, which is presented in Arabic globally, aims to resonate with both the local audience and the Lebanese and Arab diaspora scattered worldwide.

Front Row has been behind Achkar’s live comedy tour, which has successfully sold out in 75 cities around the globe, including various locations in the Arab world, such as Beirut, Riyadh, Dubai, and Cairo. Additionally, “Tryin” performances are scheduled in cities like San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, Marseille, Paris, London, Geneva, Berlin, Sydney, and Melbourne, among others, as indicated by the company.

The company is currently negotiating with an undisclosed international streaming service for a worldwide release of the “Tryin” special set for 2026. This show marks the beginning of a broader plan for a total of six Arabic stand-up specials currently being developed, with additional comedians yet to be announced.

CEO of Front Row Filmed Entertainment, Gianluca Chakra, stated, “The Middle East is not a monolithic audience but a rich tapestry of countries, cultures, and dialects that do not always share the same sense of humor.”

“John has successfully navigated that complex landscape without compromising his authentic voice. He has toured over 75 cities, consistently filled venues, and tapped into a universal resonance that connects Arabs everywhere through genuine comedy. With his performance at L’Olympia, where the world’s greatest comedians have graced the stage, he exemplifies that Arab narratives can transcend borders,” Chakra added.

Achkar remarked, “Performing at L’Olympia signifies the recognition that Arab comedy is worthy of standing alongside the finest in the world. Our narratives, our hardships, and our humor deserve the biggest platforms, as laughter speaks a universal language. Through our comedy, we are fostering a sense of community.”
