The highly anticipated series finale of “Squid Game” on Netflix has left viewers with mixed emotions and plenty to discuss. Lee Jung-jae’s portrayal of Seong Gi-hun has been a standout throughout the series, and his ultimate sacrifice in the finale brings a touch of humanity to an otherwise grim conclusion.

In a recent interview with Variety, Lee shared his thoughts on the ending now that it’s out in the world. He acknowledged the diverse range of opinions from viewers and expressed his interest in hearing and understanding all perspectives shared on social media.

When Lee first learned about his character’s fate and the ending of the series, he was taken aback by the unexpected turn of events. He had conversations with director Hwang Dong-hyuk about the various possibilities for the ending and ultimately came to understand and appreciate the significance of Gi-hun’s sacrifice as a symbol of hope for humanity.

The ambiguous nature of Gi-hun’s last words in the finale allows for interpretation by the audience, a deliberate choice made by the director to engage viewers emotionally and intellectually. Lee revealed that filming the final scene was the most challenging moment for him, requiring intense physical preparation and emotional depth.

Looking ahead, Lee expressed his hopes for Gi-hun’s daughter in the storyline, hoping that she can live a happy and stable life without ever knowing the truth about her father’s involvement in the deadly games. While he envisions her dismantling the corrupt system behind the games, he personally wishes for her ignorance and innocence to be preserved.
