LinkedIn CEO Discusses AI Uptake and Challenges

While LinkedIn users have shown a willingness to embrace AI technology, CEO Ryan Roslansky has noted one area that has not seen as much uptake as expected: AI-generated suggestions for improving LinkedIn posts.

Roslansky revealed in an interview with Bloomberg that this feature has not gained as much traction as he had anticipated. He attributed this to the higher barrier to posting on LinkedIn, as the platform is essentially an online resume. Users are more cautious about the content they share on LinkedIn, as any AI-generated posts could lead to negative feedback and impact their professional reputation.

“If you’re called out on X or TikTok, it’s one thing,” Roslansky explained. “But on LinkedIn, it can significantly affect your career prospects.”

Despite the challenges with AI-generated content, Roslansky highlighted the growing demand for AI skills in the job market. LinkedIn has seen a six-fold increase in job listings requiring AI-related skills over the past year, with a twenty-fold increase in users adding AI skills to their profiles.

Interestingly, Roslansky shared a personal anecdote about using AI tools in his communication with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. He mentioned using an AI tool called Copilot to enhance his emails to Nadella, ensuring that he comes across as knowledgeable and articulate.
