Lizzy McAlpine: From Tweeting Dreams to Broadway Reality

If you ever had doubts about the power of manifestation, Lizzy McAlpine’s story might just change your mind. In a tweet in 2021, the singer-songwriter expressed her goal of singing with Broadway star Jeremy Jordan, and now, in 2021, she is living that dream. The 25-year-old artist, known for her heartfelt and personal songs like “Ceilings” and “Pushing It Down and Praying,” is currently making her Broadway debut in a new production of Floyd Collins at Lincoln Center Theater, alongside Jordan.

Before her Broadway debut, I had the chance to sit down with Lizzy over chamomile tea at a midtown hotel. With a sparkle in her eyes, she shared how she is having the time of her life. Reflecting on her journey, Lizzy revealed that she initially applied to college for acting, not music. “I was really shy in middle school and even the beginning of high school,” she explained. “It took me a while to come out of my shell, and theater helped me with that so much.” Despite this, she ended up at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she wrote her first album, Give Me a Minute, and met producer Philip Etherington.

“When I got into Berklee, I thought I might’ve made the wrong decision, but I stuck with it,” Lizzy shared. “I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t gone.” Now, with two albums under her belt and a third on the way in 2024 titled Older, Lizzy is returning to her acting roots. Having previously played Penny Pingleton in her high school production of Hairspray, she is embracing this new chapter on Broadway with open arms.

Lizzy’s journey from tweeting her dreams to making them a reality on Broadway is a testament to the power of manifestation and hard work. As she takes the stage in Floyd Collins, audiences can expect to be captivated by her raw talent and undeniable passion for music and theater. With each note she sings and each line she delivers, Lizzy McAlpine is sure to leave a lasting impression on Broadway and beyond.
