A 34-year-old Riverdale man, James Wright, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for posing as a young dancer to manipulate preteen girls into sending him explicit videos and photos on TikTok and Snapchat. Wright’s arrest in February 2024 followed an investigation by the Cook County Sheriff’s Police, triggered by tips from a national child exploitation center and authorities in Atlanta who were also pursuing him on child pornography charges.

According to prosecutors, between December 2022 and November 2023, Wright coerced three girls, aged 8 or 9, into sharing sexually explicit content through social media. When the girls expressed hesitation, Wright reportedly threatened to expose their actions to family members and classmates. In one disturbing incident, he even sent a video of child pornography to the phone of a victim’s mother as a means of intimidation.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers were able to trace multiple social media accounts and IP addresses back to Wright through a search warrant. Additionally, explicit videos of children were discovered on his phone and iCloud account, including footage depicting adults engaging in sexual acts with minors.

Wright ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of producing child pornography before Judge Geraldine D’Souza. He received an eight-year sentence for one count and a consecutive seven-year term for the other, with a requirement to register as a sex offender. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped over 50 other felony charges.

This harrowing case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk online, particularly for vulnerable young individuals. It underscores the importance of vigilance and parental involvement in monitoring children’s internet activities to prevent exploitation and abuse.
