A 24-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery Monday evening on Chicago’s Northwest Side, and a suspect has been apprehended, according to Chicago police.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. when the victim was in an alley behind the 7000 block of West Belmont Avenue. A robber confronted him, displayed a firearm, and demanded his possessions, the police statement detailed. After the robber fired shots, hitting the victim in the abdomen, the assailant fled with the victim’s belongings. Emergency medical services transported the injured man to Loyola University Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
Thanks to information from witnesses and surveillance footage, officers conducted a search and soon located a suspect in an alley behind the 3000 block of North New England Avenue. A firearm was recovered, and the suspect was detained. As of Tuesday morning, charges were still pending.
