Netflix is developing a series based on the fantasy novel “The Everlasting,” having secured the rights to Alix E. Harrow’s acclaimed book in a competitive bidding process.
Daphne Ferraro, known for her work as the head writer on Amazon’s “Maxton Hall,” is set to write and executive produce the adaptation. She will be working alongside author Harrow, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Katy Rozelle, and Lea Cuello.
“The Everlasting” tells the story of Sir Una Everlasting, a female knight whose legendary exploits helped build a nation, and a historian who travels back in time.
According to the synopsis: “Sir Una Everlasting was Dominion’s greatest hero: an orphaned girl who became a knight and sacrificed her life for queen and country. Her story endures in songs, stories, children’s books, and recruitment posters, yet the true events of her life have faded into obscurity. Centuries later, Owen Mallory—a failed soldier and struggling scholar—becomes enamored with Una’s story. His journey leads him to war, the archives, and eventually into the past itself. Una and Owen become intertwined in time, destined to relive the same story repeatedly, regardless of the consequences. To change Una’s narrative and tell a different tale, they must alter history itself.”
The television adaptation of “The Everlasting” is being produced by Universal Global Television. Ferraro, who has also worked on “Dark,” will create and showrun “Powerless,” a YA romantasy trilogy for Amazon MGM Studios. Harrow is also the author of “The Ten Thousand Doors of January,” “The Once and Future Witches,” and “Starling House.”
Harrow is represented by Circle Management + Production and Kate McKean at the Howard Morhaim Literary Agency. Ferraro is represented by Circle Management + Production and Jackoway, Austen Tyreman.
If “The Everlasting” is picked up for a series, it will become part of Netflix’s lineup of book adaptations, which includes “The Queen’s Gambit,” “Bridgerton,” and “Leave the World Behind.”
