A man who exploited a social media app designed for teenagers to engage in illicit activities with underage girls has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty in two Cook County cases.
Alejandro Porras, 28, admitted to two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Judges Alfredo Maldonado and Geraldine D’Souza each handed down concurrent sentences, as per court documents. Porras is concurrently serving a separate four-year sentence for sexually abusing a girl in Will County.
The Cook County cases involve two victims whom Porras reportedly met through Wizz, a social media platform aimed at teenagers.
In the first incident, Chicago police were summoned to a home in Logan Square on February 5, 2024, after a woman reported her 15-year-old daughter missing. As officers were recording the report, they heard a vehicle door slam and observed the girl and Porras approaching the house, according to a report by the Chicago Police Department. Officers noted that Porras initially provided several false birth dates before admitting he was 25 years old.
The girl informed police she had met Porras on Wizz weeks earlier and had only met him in person two days prior. On the night she went missing, she said they went for a walk around 1 a.m. and ended up having sex in the bed of his pickup truck, which was parked across the street from her residence. She believed Porras was 16 years old.
Her mother took her to Lurie Children’s Hospital for treatment. Police detained Porras at the scene, but prosecutors initially held off on filing charges pending DNA test results. Lab findings from the Illinois State Police Crime Lab later connected him to the case, leading to charges being filed last summer.
By then, Porras was already in Cook County Jail on a separate charge from Calumet City involving a 13-year-old girl.
Prosecutors stated that this girl also met Porras through Wizz shortly after completing 8th grade. His profile purportedly showed his age as 15, while in private messages, he claimed to be 19. The girl told him she was 14, though she was actually 13, according to prosecutors.
On June 16, 2024, the girl informed police she provided Porras with her grandmother’s home address, where she was staying alone in a basement unit. Inside, Porras allegedly engaged in sexual acts with her about five times in one night. Prosecutors said the girl’s grandmother saw Porras being escorted out of the house. Both Porras and the girl claimed they were classmates.
Subsequent to this encounter, police in north suburban Round Lake Park apprehended Porras in another case involving a 14-year-old girl. Officers executed a search warrant on his phone, uncovering messages that linked him to the Calumet City victim, allowing police there to identify and connect him to that case.
According to Illinois Department of Corrections records, Porras is slated for parole in April 2027.
