Nearly one-third of the American population tunes in to podcasts each week, but the majority of voices heard are those of men. A recent study from USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative reveals that podcast hosts and guests are predominantly male.
An analysis of data from over 600 popular podcasts in 2024, sourced from Spotify, uncovered that almost two-thirds of the top 100 podcasts were hosted by men, with nearly three-quarters of guests also being male. Women were notably underrepresented in genres such as business, technology, sports, fitness, and comedy.
