Michelle Obama recently opened up about a cruel joke that her husband, Barack Obama, made to her following the death of her mother, Marian Robinson. During a recent episode of their podcast, IMO, Michelle and her brother Craig Robinson discussed their mother’s passing, revealing the shocking comment that Barack made to her.

Michelle recalled how shortly after her mother’s death at the age of 86 on May 31, 2024, Barack jokingly said to her, “Well, you’re next up.” She responded by telling him, “You’re next up and Craig is next up. I delegate that power to you.” This exchange highlights the siblings’ sense of humor and closeness during a difficult time.

As they approached the one-year anniversary of their mother’s passing, Michelle and Craig reflected on how her death had impacted them. Michelle expressed that losing a parent is a significant moment in one’s life, marking the transition to becoming an adult and taking on the role of managing and maintaining the family.

The siblings acknowledged that they have “big shoes to fill” after the deaths of both their mother and father, Fraser C. Robinson III, who passed away in 1991. Michelle emphasized the enduring influence of parents in their children’s lives, even as they grow older and take on more responsibilities.

In her podcast and other public appearances, Michelle has been candid about her personal life, including her decision to seek therapy as she transitions into a new phase of her life. She explained that therapy has helped her navigate this period of change, as she embraces making choices that are entirely her own now that her daughters are grown and she no longer has the same obligations she once did.

Michelle’s openness about her mental health journey and the challenges she has faced in prioritizing her own well-being have resonated with many. She has shared how therapy has empowered her to set boundaries and make decisions that are in line with her own needs and desires, even when faced with criticism and speculation from others.

Overall, Michelle Obama’s willingness to share her experiences and struggles with the public serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing mental health and self-care, especially during times of significant change and transition. Her honesty and vulnerability inspire others to seek help and make choices that align with their own well-being.
