The Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants have encountered various controversies over the years, and the latest development is that just a week before their scheduled broadcast on The CW, the events have been unexpectedly removed from the network’s lineup.
The CW and Miss USA have not provided detailed reasons for this decision. However, The CW released a statement saying, “After careful consideration and conversations with the Miss USA Organization, The CW Network has decided to forego next week’s broadcasts of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. We wish the organization and all of this year’s contestants well in the competition.”
In 2024, The CW secured a three-year agreement to air the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. Despite this, the network did not broadcast the events in 2025, with the Queen Beauty Network streaming them instead. This year, The CW was set to air Miss Teen USA on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and Miss USA on Thursday, Aug. 27. However, both events will be streamed by the Queen Beauty Network once more.
What led to this change? The reasons remain unclear. A brief statement on the Miss USA/Miss Teen USA pageant’s Instagram Stories mentioned a contractual issue identified two weeks prior that couldn’t be resolved in time. The team explored options for a live broadcast on The CW, but could not reach an agreement for this year’s event.
The statement continued: “While The CW will not be carrying a live broadcast of Miss USA this year, we are grateful for our relationship with the network and remain open to opportunities to work together in the future.”
The initial deal with The CW was made during Laylah Rose’s tenure as CEO of the Miss USA Organization. However, last year, the Miss Universe Organization, which licenses Miss USA, renegotiated the franchise with a new operator, Brodeur Beauty founder Thom Brodeur, who secured exclusive rights to Miss USA and Miss Teen USA under a ten-year contract.
Rose initially denied these changes. During her leadership, Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt and Miss Teen USA UmaSofia Srivastava stepped down from their titles, with Voigt alleging a toxic workplace culture under Rose.
This year, the Miss USA pageant faced another controversy when Miss North Carolina USA, Brittany Boltinhouse, was stripped of her title due to her actions. Brodeur stated, “The Miss USA Organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia nor language that strips any person of their dignity — whoever they are.”
