Pierce Brosnan Embraces New Accent for Paramount+ Series “MobLand”

Pierce Brosnan, known for his Irish roots, stepped out of his comfort zone for his role as gangster patriarch Conrad Harrigan in the Paramount+ series “MobLand.” Despite his initial hesitation, Brosnan found the perfect accent inspired by his own father.

When director Guy Ritchie approached him with the opportunity, Brosnan was instantly drawn to the character of Conrad. After some initial nerves and preparation, Brosnan dove into the role headfirst. On the first day of shooting with Tom Hardy, who plays Harry Da Souza, the family fixer, Brosnan finally found his stride with a Kerry accent that paid homage to his father’s roots.

Helen Mirren, who plays Maeve, Conrad’s wife, also embraced the challenge of adopting an Irish accent for the series. Drawing from her past experience playing an Irish character in “1923,” Mirren seamlessly slipped into the role with ease.

The dynamic between Brosnan and Mirren on set added an extra layer of authenticity to their characters, with Mirren commending Brosnan’s portrayal of a pig farmer with a hint of London influence. The blend of accents and backgrounds added depth to their characters and brought the world of “MobLand” to life.

Overall, the process of finding the right accent for their characters was a collaborative and exciting journey for Brosnan and Mirren. Their dedication to authenticity and their willingness to step out of their comfort zones truly shines through in their performances in “MobLand.”
