CBS Faces Technical Snafu During “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” Broadcast

CBS encountered a technical glitch that caused the live broadcast of “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” to go off the air for approximately 12 minutes on Wednesday night. The interruption occurred about 50 minutes into the five and a half hour special, leaving viewers puzzled as the network aired an episode of “Matlock” in the interim.

The exact cause of the technical issues remains unclear. Singer-actor Lainey Wilson was in the middle of a performance when the broadcast was abruptly interrupted at around 8:50 p.m. PT. A voice mentioned “technical difficulties” before commercials were shown, followed by an episode of “Matlock.” Hosts Bert Kreischer and country singer Hardy later apologized for the interruption, with singer Gretchen Wilson taking the stage afterwards.

The event took place at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville and featured appearances by country music stars such as Jason Aldean, CeCe Winans, Dierks Bentley, and Keith Urban, among others. “Nashville’s Big Bash” is executive produced by Robert Deaton and Mary Hilliard Harrington in partnership with Music City Inc.

Overall, the technical hiccup did not dampen the spirits of the performers or the audience, as the show went on smoothly following the brief interruption. The annual event continues to be a highlight for country music fans around the world, showcasing the talent and energy of Nashville’s music scene.
