Timothy Busfield, known for his roles in TV shows like The West Wing and Thirtysomething, was set to appear in an upcoming episode of Law & Order: SVU. However, NBC has decided to shelve the episode following the issuance of an arrest warrant against Busfield on charges of child sex abuse.
The episode, in which Busfield played a guest role as a judge, was originally scheduled to air on January 15. It has now been replaced with a different episode planned for January 22. This decision comes after serious allegations were made against Busfield regarding inappropriate behavior with a child actor on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady.
According to legal documents, a child actor accused Busfield of criminal sexual contact and child abuse. The alleged incidents took place during the filming of The Cleaning Lady, where Busfield directed several episodes. The child, who was 7 years old at the time, claimed that Busfield touched him inappropriately on multiple occasions.
The child also mentioned that he was afraid of Busfield and was relieved when he was not on set. He was hesitant to speak out about the abuse for fear of repercussions from Busfield, who was a prominent figure on the set as a director.
During the investigation, the Albuquerque Police Department spoke with Busfield over the phone. When questioned about the allegations, Busfield admitted that there may have been physical contact with the boys but claimed it was in a playful and non-threatening manner.
Busfield and his wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, confirmed that they had a relationship with the child actors and their family outside of work. Warner Bros. Television, the co-producer of The Cleaning Lady, released a statement expressing their commitment to the safety of their cast and crew, especially minors, and their cooperation with law enforcement in light of the charges against Busfield.
As of now, Busfield remains at large, with the U.S. Marshals Service assisting the Albuquerque Police Department in locating him. If you or someone you know is experiencing child abuse, it is crucial to seek help from organizations like the Child Help Hotline at 1-800-422-4453.
The situation involving Timothy Busfield is ongoing, and the entertainment industry is closely monitoring the developments surrounding the allegations of child sex abuse against him.
