Netflix Films “Frankenstein” and “KPop Demon Hunters” Sweep Academy Awards

Two Netflix films stole the show at this year’s Academy Awards, with “Frankenstein” and “KPop Demon Hunters” taking home multiple prestigious awards. Director Guillermo del Toro’s reimagining of “Frankenstein” was a big winner, securing accolades for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. On the other hand, Netflix’s record-breaking movie “KPop Demon Hunters” clinched victories for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.

In recent times, streaming platforms have increasingly made their mark at the Oscars, with notable films like “Roma,” “The Power of the Dog,” and “All Quiet on the Western Front” receiving critical acclaim. However, the coveted Best Picture award has remained elusive for Netflix, with Apple’s “CODA” being the only streaming film to have clinched the top prize.

During the ceremony, host Conan O’Brien cheekily acknowledged the presence of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, quipping, “This is exciting: It’s his first time in a theater!”

“Frankenstein” received a total of nine Oscar nominations, including nods for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor. Additionally, Netflix’s “Train Dreams” and Apple’s “F1” (winner of Best Sound) were also in the running for Best Picture. While the award for Best Picture is yet to be announced at the time of publication, it is widely speculated to be a close contest between “One Battle After Another” and “Sinners.”
