President Donald Trump has recently stirred controversy by adding plaques with provocative language under portraits of past presidents on his “Presidential Walk of Fame” at the White House. The revamped walkway has become a platform for Trump to mock his predecessors, including former President Joe Biden, whose portrait features an autopen and signature instead of his face. A plaque under Biden’s image now declares him as “Sleepy Joe Biden was, by far, the worst President in American History,” a recurring insult by Trump.

Other presidents have not been spared from Trump’s taunts, with plaques under their images featuring derogatory remarks. Former President Barack Obama is referred to as “Barack Hussein Obama” and labeled as “one of the most divisive political figures in American History,” while former President Bill Clinton’s plaque highlights the fact that his wife, Hillary, lost the presidency to Trump in 2016.

The reaction from Capitol Hill to these additions has been largely negative, with Sen. Lindsey Graham questioning the impact of such displays on people’s lives. He emphasized the importance of addressing everyday problems over indulging in symbolic gestures. Sen. Chris Murphy went further, describing Trump as a “sad, damaged person.”

Trump’s “Presidential Walk of Fame” was unveiled in September, featuring gold-colored frames along the West Wing colonnade outside the Oval Office. The walkway includes portraits of Trump himself as the 45th and 47th president, reflecting his efforts to leave a lasting mark on the White House. Trump has been on a mission to reshape the White House to his liking since returning to power, including demolishing the entire East Wing to construct a massive ballroom.

The controversial nature of Trump’s actions has sparked debate and criticism, highlighting the ongoing polarization in American politics. Whether these displays will have any lasting impact remains to be seen, but they serve as a reminder of the divisive nature of Trump’s presidency.
