A shocking incident in New Jersey has left a third-grade student injured after a serial rock-thrower allegedly targeted a school bus. The 40-year-old suspect, Hernando Garciamorales, was arrested for throwing a baseball-sized stone that struck the young girl in the head, fracturing her skull.
The incident occurred as the school bus was returning from a field trip on the New Jersey Turnpike in Teaneck Township. The eight-year-old victim was the only one injured in the attack and had to undergo surgery as a result of her injuries.
Following a two-day search, Garciamorales was located and arrested at a campsite within Old Croaker County Park in Bergen County. Authorities have also linked him to other rock-throwing incidents in the area, raising concerns about his motives.
It is reported that there were no markings on the bus indicating it belonged to a Jewish school, so the investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack. Garciamorales faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief, resisting arrest by flight, and hindering.
He is currently being held at the Bergen County jail pending a detention hearing. The incident has sparked outrage and concern in the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and safety measures to prevent such senseless acts of violence.
