A tragic incident unfolded at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse in Charlotte, North Carolina, when a grieving father, Shaheem Snype, attacked the man accused of killing his 16-year-old son, Jamariyae Dixon. The accused murderer, Marion McKnight, was out on bond when the confrontation occurred.

Video footage captured the moment Snype lunged at McKnight in a courthouse hallway, unleashing a series of punches and kicks before being subdued by a Taser-wielding officer. McKnight was taken to a hospital following the assault.

Despite the emotional outburst, Snype was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury. However, he was released from jail after posting a $1,000 bond. Dixon’s family expressed their frustration with McKnight being free on bond, believing it was a decision that should not have been made.

Susan Sherrill, Dixon’s aunt, defended Snype’s actions, stating that he did what any father would do in such a situation. The family continues to grieve the loss of Dixon, emphasizing that the wound of his death will never fully heal.

The deadly shooting that led to Dixon’s passing occurred on May 23, 2025, in Charlotte. McKnight was identified as the suspect and was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. He was released on bond in November 2025 and has been under electronic monitoring at his mother’s home since then.

Prosecutors were seeking to revoke McKnight’s bond when the altercation took place at the courthouse. Lynnette Dixon, Jamariyae’s mother, expressed a sense of relief after watching the video of the attack, stating that it was the first time she had genuinely smiled since her son’s tragic death.
