New York City Celebrates Safest January Ever

New York City residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the Big Apple just experienced its safest January on record. NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced on Monday that the number of shootings and murders in the city drastically decreased to all-time lows.

Compared to January 2025, the number of homicides plummeted by 60% last month, while shooting incidents were down by 20%. Tisch proudly shared these statistics on FOX 5’s “Good Day New York,” emphasizing that the city had the lowest number of shooting incidents, shooting victims, and homicides ever recorded during the month of January.

Tisch attributed this success to the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the NYPD, stating, “I think people feel safer in the city, and the numbers just really tell an incredible story about what the men and women of the NYPD are doing.”

In addition to the significant decrease in violent crimes, other types of criminal activities also saw a decline. Burglaries dropped by nearly 30% last month compared to the same period the previous year. Retail theft decreased by 16% and robberies were down by almost 10%.

Tisch commended the NYPD for their strategic approach to crime prevention, stating, “It’s the right strategy—and the cops are executing it brilliantly.”

The positive trend in crime reduction is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement officers and the effective strategies implemented by the NYPD. As New Yorkers enjoy a safer city, the NYPD continues to work diligently to protect and serve the community.
