A 2-year-old goldendoodle reportedly abandoned by its previous owner at a Nevada airport has been welcomed into a new home by a police officer who answered the call for help.
Described as a heartwarming tale of compassion and community support, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shared an update on Saturday.
The dog, named Jet Blue by authorities, was left at Harry Reid Airport in Paradise by its previous owner, who was subsequently arrested on charges of animal abandonment and resisting arrest. The woman allegedly abandoned Jet Blue after failing to complete required documentation for the dog to travel as a service animal.
Video footage of the incident on February 2nd showed the owner leaving Jet Blue tied up at the airport ticket counter.
When confronted by police at the departure gate, the owner claimed that the airline wouldn’t allow her to bring the dog on board and suggested that the dog had a tracking device, implying it would find its way back to her.
Following the incident, Jet Blue was taken in by Animal Protective Services and later transferred to Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas after a mandatory hold period. Danielle Roth, a spokesperson for the rescue, noted Jet Blueâs affectionate and trusting nature despite his ordeal.
After receiving numerous applications, Jet Blue was adopted by LVMPD Officer Skeeter Black, who had been searching for a goldendoodle for months prior to meeting Jet Blue. The Black family had already been approved by the rescue organization and welcomed Jet Blue into their home.
âToday marks the start of Jet Blueâs new journey, surrounded by those who stepped in to help when he needed it most,â stated the police department.
