Oscars Ratings 2025: 18.1 Million Viewers

The 97th Academy Awards, broadcasted on ABC, attracted just under 18.1 million viewers on Sunday, marking a 7% decrease from the previous year. This viewership total, which includes both linear viewers on ABC and Hulu livestreams, represents the first drop in viewership in four years. Despite this decline, the Oscars remained the most-watched primetime entertainment telecast of the 2024-2025 TV season so far.

It is worth noting that the Hulu livestream experienced technical difficulties during the ceremony. Thousands of users reported problems accessing the stream, and although service was restored at one point, issues resurfaced towards the end of the event. These interruptions may have impacted the overall viewership numbers, but it is important to consider that this is the first year Disney simulcasted the Oscars on Hulu.

Conan O’Brien, hosting the Oscars for the first time, received positive reviews for his performance on the Dolby stage. “Anora” emerged as the big winner of the night, taking home the coveted best picture award along with accolades for best actress and best director. The full list of winners can be found on the official Oscars website.

Following the Oscars, ABC aired a half-hour preview of the upcoming eighth season of “American Idol.” The show garnered 5.9 million viewers, marking its biggest season launch in three years. The lead-in from the awards ceremony undoubtedly played a significant role in driving viewership for the singing competition series.

Overall, despite a slight dip in viewership and technical issues with the livestream, the 97th Academy Awards proved to be a successful event, with strong ratings among key demographics. As Hollywood’s biggest night, the Oscars continue to captivate audiences and celebrate the best in film.
