The Lancaster Township Police Department in Pennsylvania reported a disturbing incident where a 9-year-old boy was severely burned by his 12-year-old brother. The older sibling poured scalding hot water on the younger boy as part of the dangerous “Hot Water Challenge” that has been circulating on social media. The boy suffered severe burns to his neck and chest and had to be rushed to the Lehigh Burn Center in Allentown for treatment.

The perpetrator was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. The police are conducting an ongoing investigation and urging parents to monitor their children’s online activities to prevent such harmful challenges.

This harmful prank has gained notoriety in recent years, with reports of teens and children suffering permanent scars from the scalding hot water. In a similar incident in 2018, a 15-year-old boy from Indianapolis suffered second-degree burns on his back, chest, and face after a friend pulled the same prank on him while he slept.

The siblings reportedly learned about the dangerous challenge from YouTube and decided to try it themselves. The victim, Kyland Clark, described the horrific aftermath of the incident, with his skin peeling off his chest and face. In a tragic case from 2017, an 8-year-old girl from Florida lost her life after drinking boiling water through a straw as part of a dare from her cousin.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of online challenges and the importance of parental supervision to protect children from harm. It is crucial to educate young people about the risks involved in such reckless behavior and to promote safe and responsible use of social media platforms.
