In a move reminiscent of an old-time western showdown, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth revealed on Friday a new counter-narcotics task force poised to launch operations in the Caribbean. This initiative, a brainchild of President Trump, aims to dismantle drug cartels and secure the United States against narcotic threats.
Hegseth elaborated on the task force’s mission: a hard-hitting campaign to “crush the cartels, stop the poison, and keep America safe.” The undertaking is set to operate under the auspices of SOUTHCOM, which oversees military efforts in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth noted on Friday that the Department of War (DOW) is establishing a counter-narcotics Joint Task Force in the Caribbean Sea.
As Hegseth declared, “If you traffic drugs toward our shores, we will stop you cold.” This statement, filled with bravado, underscores a zero-tolerance approach toward drug trafficking.
At the directive of President Donald Trump, the newly formed task force will be deployed in the SOUTHCOM area, encompassing critical geographic regions.
The Trump administration has taken a stringent stance against drug trafficking, notably targeting and destroying boats attempting to ferry narcotics into U.S. territory. Past operations have involved sinking these vessels to stem the tide of drugs flooding across the border.
At the President’s direction, the Department of War is forming a counter-narcotics Joint Task Force in the @SOUTHCOM area to crush the cartels, stop the poison, and safeguard America. The approach is uncompromising: those who traffic drugs towards our shores will face severe consequences.

Reports from October and September detailed operations where numerous drug boats were neutralized under the Trump administration’s rigorous policy, reinforcing the message that the U.S. will not tolerate the culture of trafficking that devastates lives across the nation.
In a dramatic display of military force, unclassified footage from early October showcased a U.S. military operation that resulted in the destruction of a drug boat, with four smugglers reportedly killed.
