Police have made a grim discovery in the case of the suspected botched kidnapping of grandfather Chris Baghsarian in Sydney’s north. Detectives announced on Tuesday that human remains were found near Linwood Golf Club in Pitt Town, approximately 46 kilometers from where Baghsarian was kidnapped.

While the remains have not been positively identified as Baghsarian, Detective Acting Superintendent Andrew Marks stated that they suspect it to be him. The family of Baghsarian is understandably devastated, and they have requested privacy during this difficult time.

Baghsarian, 85, was taken from his home in North Ryde by masked intruders in the early hours of February 13. Police launched an extensive search for him, believing he was kidnapped in a case of mistaken identity.

The area where Baghsarian’s remains were found has been declared a crime scene, and detectives are urging anyone with information, especially regarding a grey Toyota linked to the investigation, to come forward.

The investigation took a significant turn when a partially burnt-out car, forensically linked to Baghsarian, was discovered on February 16. The vehicle had cloned number plates and was allegedly stolen on the day of the kidnapping. Prior to finding the burnt-out car, police located a suspected holding location in an abandoned property in Dural, where they believe Baghsarian was kept during the ordeal.

Police have been diligently searching the area, and the recent discovery of human remains has heightened concerns about Baghsarian’s fate. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities vowing to use every available resource to bring those responsible to justice.

In a surprising twist, reports suggest that the intended target of the botched kidnapping was Dimitri Stepanyan, a self-described entrepreneur with a criminal past. The kidnapping was believed to be a case of mistaken identity, as the kidnappers sent a video to Stepanyan’s family showing Baghsarian as the hostage.

Stepanyan, who owns multiple businesses including a streetwear brand, has a history of criminal activities and was previously sentenced to prison for armed robbery. His involvement in the incident has added another layer of complexity to the case.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working tirelessly to provide answers to Baghsarian’s family and ensure that justice is served in this tragic and senseless crime. The community is shocked by the events that have transpired, and the search for the truth continues.
